Where To Find Sleep Apnea Clinics In Your Area

One of the first places you should turn to for help is a sleep apnea clinic if you or your partner has already been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, or if you feel that you're showing signs of suffering from this sleeping disorder. Sleeping disorder clinics are available all around the country, so you should be able to find one in your area that can provide the support, help, and treatment options you need to help combat what can sometimes be a debilitating disorder.

If you are considering making a visit to a sleep clinic, there are a few things you need to know first. If you have not yet been properly diagnosed as having obstructive sleep apnea or another sleeping disorder, then the first thing that the clinic will want to do is have you undergo a sleep apnea test, also known as a polysomnogram

During a sleep test, you will be connected to machines which read your heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and brain activity among many other things. Depending on the clinic you choose, the sleep study may be done in a specialized sleep center where you will spend the night with specialists monitoring your sleeping pattern and vital signs for any possible sleeping disorder. Some clinics also offer at home sleep tests which are typically much cheaper and can be done in the comfort of your own home.

In a home sleep study, you will be sent home with a few machines to monitor your vital signs and then return to the clinic the next day so the sleep specialists can look at the results and make their diagnosis. Many specialists actually feel that despite the few drawbacks, home sleep studies sometimes produce better results because the patient feels much more comfortable and can sleep more naturally in their own bed.

After undergoing a sleep study, the sleep specialist will then determine whether or not you suffer from sleep apnea or any other sleeping disorder. At this point they will then discuss the various treatment options available to you, including the use of a CPAP machine
